Siemens SITRANS F M MAG 8000 Battery Powered Magmeter Now Equipped with 3G/UMTS Module

October 2017, MARIETTA, GA ~

Siemens Process Instrumentation is pleased to announce that the 3G module for the SITRANS F M MAG 8000 electromagnetic flow meter has been released. The 3G module serves as a replacement for the 2G GSM/GPRS module, and is designed to work with existing wireless networks.

Significant Features

  •  Data link (FTP/SMTP) encrypted by the TLS/SSL protocol, i.e. the measurement data in the .csv file can be:

    • Sent to the customer through the encrypted SMTP protocol via email or

    • Uploaded directly to the customer’s server through the encrypted FTP protocol

  • Remote Qualification Certificate

    • By texting the device, the key parameters from the MAG 8000 will be collected, filled in on the Qualification Certificate template and sent to customers by email or FTP for remote device qualification

  • Synchronization of the MAG 8000 real-time clock with the public NTP server at each wakeup.

    • The MAG 8000 real-time clock, as well as the measurement data read by the 3G module, is always synchronized with UTC time retrieved from pool.ntp.org

    • The measurement data can be further aligned with the local time combined with the time zone configuration parameter. This parameter can also be used to adjust the standard time/daylight savings time switch by SMS command

    • Synchronization dependent on having MAG8000 Firmware version 3.09

  • One single command to synchronize the data transmission time

    • An SMS command can easily synchronize data transmission from all devices at a customer- specified point in time

  • New 4mA / 20mA SMS alarms detected from analog input interface

    • 4mA and 20mA alarm flags are designed for external detectors, e.g. tamper detector or level detector

    • The corresponding alarm flags will be triggered by the analog current input and a real-time alarm SMS will be sent to the customer

  • SMTP port number configurable by SMS command for protection against malicious network attacks

  • Local time zone configuration

  • Flow rate in the .csv file indicating both forward and reverse flow

  • 3G/2G network compatibility, i.e. the module will automatically fall back to the 2G GSM/GPRS network if there is no 3G signal coverage at the installation
