Leading Aerospace Manufacturer Heat Treating with CSZ Chamber

September 2018, MARIETTA, GA ~

GKN Aerospace, a long-time customer of CSZ, had a need for a test chamber to heat treat temper formed panels for aircrafts. As a market technology leader and manufacturer of aero structures GKN Aerospace supplies empennages, wing structures, fuselages and components to aircraft companies around the world. Their products can be found in helicopters, business jets, fighter jets and even large commercial aircraft.

Aircraft parts are unique in that they are required to be strong but at the same time very light. Also, it is very common for the individual parts to be quite large. The odd sizes and shapes can cause problems when it comes to heat treating panels as standard test chambers and ovens often will not accommodate demanding size and performance requirements.

In order to meet their heat treat process specification (No. 5150), the test chamber required an average heating and cooling transition rate of 6.5°C per minute with a load consisting of 1500 lbs. of steel.

CSZ’s solution was to provide a test chamber with internal workspace measuring 120”L x 96”W x 84”H. The test chamber met the harsh temperature conditions required for the heat treating application by achieving a temperature range of -73°C to 204°C (-100°F to 400°F) which also included an LN2 boost system.

GKN remains a loyal customer to CSZ due to our vast experience with chambers including LN2 systems and long history of high performing safe & reliable options.
